Hypnotherapy

What can hypnotherapy do for me?

Firstly, hypnosis can achieve more than standard talking therapy and in my experience is quicker and can get to the source of an unconscious issue, often totally out of conscious awareness. Many people do things or can’t do things that they would like to do but they cannot put a finger on why this is. This is what hypnosis is so good at achieving. Many physical symptoms (e.g headaches, skin conditions) are also caused by unconscious processes unknown to the client.

Just as sleep is so necessary for our mental and physical well being, so hypnosis can also be used the same way to naturally evoke mind and body improvements while in the relaxed state.

The basis of hypnosis is to initially calm down the mind and therefore is excellent by itself for relaxation, stress relief and insomnia.

Some frequent issues hypnosis can also be used for:

• Weight control
• Stopping smoking
• Pain management
• Phobias
• Panic attacks
• Depression
• Post-traumatic stress
• Unresolved trauma
• Confidence & self-esteem
• Excessive guilt
• OCD and addiction
• Sexual disorders
• General unwanted habits

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness creating calm relaxation. Most of us go daily into this state naturally, perhaps without recognising it: daydreaming, watching TV, reading a book, listening to music, to name just a few. While one is in hypnosis/trance, the conscious mind becomes quiet, allowing access to the more important subconscious mind, where real change takes place. Research has shown that during hypnosis the brainwaves become slower than when one is in the normal waking state. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation with focused concentration in which relaxed brainwave states of alpha, theta, and delta can be reached. There are varying degrees of hypnosis; some people go deeply and some go lightly with most people somewhere in the middle. One false misconception is that people who are hypnotised are unconscious. During hypnosis, one maintains control and awareness. Hypnotherapists use hypnosis as a tool to assist people who desire quick, positive transformation in their lives, compared to other conventional methods where change generally takes longer.

Most of our behaviour is unconscious; therefore relating to the unconscious, understanding its language, is the answer and that is exactly what good hypnosis is all about.

What does hypnosis feel like?

The trance state may seem like a mysterious experience to you, but it’s as natural as sleep. You view sleeping as a perfectly normal, necessary activity. Do you find it strange that you put on special clothing, lie horizontal in bed, turn off the lights, close your eyes, and go into another state where you often see pictures dancing inside your head? Similarly, the trance state may seem unusual, but it’s really as natural as sleep itself. Both sleep and trance quiet the waking mind and take you nicely, deeply inside yourself.
